As part of our mission to support jazz education in our community, the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra provides opportunities to area students to meet and interact with professional musicians through our Education Day Program and our Locals Only concerts.

Education Day Program:

Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra has a history of featuring various guest artists at our Wildish Theater performances  throughout the season. Recent guest artists have included Darmon Meader, Clairdee and Calvin Orlando Smith. For our Education Day Program, representatives from Swing Shift take these amazing artists around to area schools to provide master classes and Q&A sessions to encourage and inspire young musicians. The students are always excited to meet these professional musicians and to share their love of music.

Locals Only Concerts:

​

The last Wildish concert of each season is our "Locals Only"concert where we feature guest artists and composers with a local connection. As part of this concert, a local middle school or high school jazz ensemble is invited to share the concert with the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra. For many students, this opportunity to play at the Wildish Theater is the student's first time playing in a professional venue. The excitement and nervous energy is always palpable and the students are treated to the experience of a life time.​​​
